Coachella may be known for its stellar music lineup… but the food experience is just as exciting.
Coachella, the largest desert music and arts festival of our time, just announced its festival lineup. No, we aren’t talking about the musical acts, though seeing AC/DC, Jack White, and Drake perform all in one venue will be pretty exciting. Headlining the chefs and restaurants lineup for the two-weekend Coachella experience from April 10 to 17 are Roy Choi, Eggslut, 800 Degrees, and Spicy Pie.
The dozens of food offerings, from well-known restaurants across California and beyond, are divided into four categories arranged by price and difficulty of obtaining a ticket: VIP, Outstanding in the Field, Beer Barn, and everything else. Only VIP ticket holders will have access to the upper tier, with highlights like Pot (Roy Choi), Terrine (Kris Morningstar), Mexicali Taco & Co., and The Church Key.
Everyone will have the ability to snag $225 tickets to the Outstanding in the Field roving dinner series, which will feature four-course meals created by Michelin-starred and James Beard award-winning chefs from the likes of Eggslut, KazuNori, Ramen Champ, and more. All hungry non-VIP guests will have to stick to walking around and buying food from vendors like 800 Degrees, Beer Belly, The Grilled Cheese Truck, and Spicy Pie.

Coachella Releases Full Star-Studded Lineup, Set Times
Off to the Valley! With just days until the kickoff of the 2015 Coachella Music and Arts Festival, the full lineup with set times for the highly anticipated event has been announced.
Music and boho-style lovers will travel from all over the world this weekend and next to catch big acts in Indio, Calif. The festival is kicking off on Friday, April 10 at 11:15 a.m., with performances by Alchemy and Moustache.

On Friday evening, revelers will choose between rock band Interpol, indie pop singer Lykke Li, and the celebrated folk-rock group Alabama Shakes, before taking in Steely Dan at 8:15 p.m., AC/DC at 10:35 p.m., and Alesso at 11:35 p.m.
The following day begins promptly at 11 am and includes appearances by Hozier, Belle and Sebastian, the Weeknd, and Axwell Ingrosso. Festival-goers will be given a tough choice in the 9 p.m. hour, when they must pick between Jack White, Tyler the Creator, and the newly engaged FKA twigs.

Weekend one wraps on Sunday, April 12, with a 11:20 a.m. start to the day, which includes shows from Vance Joy, Marina and the Diamonds, Jenny Lewis, and St. Vincent. Fans will chose between seeing Florence + the Machine, Fitz & the Tantrums, and Odesza in the early evening, before Drake takes the stage at 10:15 p.m.

Coachella 2015: Set times released for first weekend
Start planning now on which acts you’re going to catch and which ones you’ll just have to skip because Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival set times are out for your festival planning needs — and there are undoubtedly conflicts for some music fans.
Starting Friday, festivalgoers will have to choose between Lykke Li (7:20-8:10 p.m. at Mojave) and Alabama Shakes (7-7:50 p.m. in the Outdoor Theatre) alt-J (7:30-8:30 p.m. on the Coachella Stage) and Father John Misty (8-8:50 p.m. in the Outdoor Theatre) on Saturday and Vance Joy (5:30-6:15 p.m. at Mojave) or Jenny Lewis (5:35-6:25 p.m. in the Outdoor Theatre) on the final night of the first weekend.
But, for the most part, it seems Coachella organizers have worked to provide fewer conflicts as the festival nights amp up for its headliners.

The year’s most hotly anticipated music festival will once again make noise at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California over two weekends: April 10-12 and April 17-19.
The official schedule, complete with timing and more information, is yet to be released, but we’ve got the full lineup for you right now when you keep scrolling.
Coachella tickets will go on sale at noon PST tomorrow, January 7, so get your credit card ready and bring on that California desert sunshine.
What Coachella and 6 other music festival lineups would look like without men (PHOTOS)
We all know by now that music festivals have been a very male-centric affair. While we’ve seen a very slight increase in female artists on music festival lineups, the sad reality is there aren’t enough.
A few months ago, music blog Crack in the Road tweeted out an image of an edited Reading & Leeds music festival poster stripped of the male acts and included only bands that had at least one female musician:

So, we had to know: What do other larger music festival lineups look like?
We took a look at Summerfest, Firefly, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, CMA Music Festival, Lollapalooza and Coachella &mdash and were sincerely blown away with how jarring these images are.

Governors Ball: 30 percent female
We found that Governors Ball, a music festival in NYC, had the most female inclusion &mdash at 30 percent. The lineup includes a total of 66 artists, 20 of them female.
Lollapalooza: 25 percent female
Lollapalooza &mdash one of the most popular music festivals in the United States, located in Chicago &mdash has a total of 135 artists on the lineup, 34 of them including at least one female member. That makes this lineup 75 percent male.
Firefly: 24 percent female
Ranking right below Lollapalooza is Firefly Music Festival, located in Delaware. The festival has a total of 119 acts listed, 29 of them female.
Bonnaroo: 23 percent female
Held in Manchester, Tennessee, Bonnaroo has more than 75 percent of its lineup comprised of bands entirely of men. It has a total of 100 acts listed, 23 of them female.
Summerfest: 21 percent female
Considered the “world’s largest music festival,” Summerfest, located in Wisconsin, has a total of 111 artists, 23 of them having at least one female member.
CMA Music Festival: 19 percent female
Although the CMA Music Festival &mdash located in Nashville, Tennessee &mdash has just 21 country awards acts on its lineup, only four are female.
Coachella: 13.5 percent female
This is the biggest offender. Coachella has a total of 162 bands spread out through its three-day event however, only 22 are female.
Are festival organizers aware that this is happening? Of course. Do they care? Probably not. This is nothing new, but with reports showing that festivalgoers skew slightly more female &mdash for instance, the UK Festival Census 2013 states 42 percent were male and 58 percent were female &mdash why hasn’t this changed? There surely isn’t a lack of female artists out there.
In fact, SheKnows Expert and female electropop musician Lori Steele was shocked when she saw the lineups. “To have that large of a discrepancy feels insane!
“As a musician, I feel slightly unnerved with the lack of female-led artists in the lineup,” she adds. “There are so many talented female-fronted bands and DJs that aren’t being represented, and I feel that in order to change this we &mdash as music purchasers, downloaders and streamers &mdash need to support these acts through streaming, downloading and attending shows that they play. Like any other business, a music festival’s goal is to be profitable. Sure, each has its own spin, whether it’s sourcing new music, environmental awareness, etc., but if they don’t make money they can’t pay the staff, artists, venue, etc.”
But this isn’t the first time this has been addressed. An article from Salon published in 2013 dives into the sexism in the music industry. The article asks: Why have festivals become a boys club? According to rock critic Evelyn McDonnell:
“I certainly don’t think it’s because booking companies are saying, ‘Oh, we’re going to put women at the bottom of the lineup.’ The men of power who are in this industry have this internalized, institutionalized sexism. They see men as having economic power and therefore get billed.”
Can we change this? Steele thinks so, stressing the importance of support for female artists.
“One can shout as loud as possible and stomp feet demanding more female artists,” Steele adds, “but it won’t change the fact that it’s a business. So we should treat it as such and do our part in supporting the underserved female acts we love.”

Coachella 2013 Lineup Announced: Blur, The Stone Roses, Phoenix And Red Hot Chili Peppers Headlining
Coachella Music Festival released their official 2013 lineup in a tweet on Thursday evening, and the headliners for each day are Blur, The Stone Roses, Phoenix and Red Hot Chili Peppers as the closing night act.
This will be Coachella's 14th hurrah and its second year of splitting the festival into two identical weekends in order to accomodate their vastly multiplying audience. Weekend 1 will take place April 12-14 and Weekend 2 will be April 19-21.
Festival passes for both weekends go on sale Tuesday, January 29th at 10AM PST. Festival passes for Weekend 1 must be purchased with a shuttle pass or a car camping pass. New for 2013, the price you see is the price you pay — $349 for a GA ticket and $799 for VIP. Prices reflect all fees included. Layaway is no longer an option for either weekend. Last year's tickets sold out online in under two hours.

In mid-December, rumors of the lineup started swirling as Songkick, an event ticket site whose tagline is, "Be The First To Know About Concerts," sent out an email blast listing The Rolling Stones, Daft Punk, Phoenix and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Coachella 2013.
Coachella also posted a photo on their Facebook wall Jan. 4 of what appeared to be a rolling stone in the Coachella field, which further ignited squeals of joy across the internet that the famed rock and roll band might headline this year's festival.
But on January 22, Rolling Stone magazine announced that the Stones will in fact not appear at Coachella. On the same day, the music festival released a mysterious video featuring Radiohead's song Bloom, but with no further clues about the impending lineup.
Last year's headliners included The Black Keys, Radiohead, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and, of course, the most famous hologram of all time -- Tupac. Over 80,000 people attended.
UPDATE: A rep for Coachella confirmed to The Huffington Post that people who already bought Weekend 1 tickets will still have in-and-out driving privileges. The only available tickets left for Weekend 1 include the purchase of a car camping pass or a shuttle pass. However, if one purchases a shuttle pass package for Weekend 1, you are not obligated to use it if you still prefer to day park like in year's past. General Admission tickets for Weekend 2 are still available.

Yesterday, Coachella Valley Music and Arts finally unleashed the lineup for their 2017 festival. The rumors were confirmed — Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé and Radiohead are headlining. Goldenvoice, a subsidiary of AEG Live as of 2001, lost $850,000 because of the first Coachella. Instead, electronic dance music festival Nocturnal Wonderland took its place at the Empire Polo Club instead.

Coachella 2016: Diverse dining lineup is where hot tunes meet full tummies

Multi-course gourmet meals from real big-city eateries. Acai fruit bowls. Burgers topped with cheddar and pepperoncini. Shrimp and grits. And, of course, Cheetos fries.
“There has to be the Guns N’ Roses and the Calvin Harrises of the food,” said Nic Adler, the festival’s director of food and beverage,” likening the festival’s wide variety of musical acts to his diverse array of dining delights.
𠇊nd there has to be the little gems you’ve never heard of — you heard about it from a friend the first weekend and you gotta get there for second weekend.”
So which entree corresponds to Harris, the megastar DJ who headlined the final night of the festival?
Why, of course, he chose Backyard Bowls’ acai bowls, created by the desert-outpost version of the popular Los Angeles and Santa Barbara outfit. Harris grew from a niche act with a small, loyal following to headliner status. Acai bowls, once an organic food-stand niche, can now be found on supermarket shelves everywhere.
And which festival tidbit is akin to megaband Guns N’ Roses? It’s the Dagwood Burger with Cheetos Fries, forged by hip West Hollywood gastropub The Church Key. The two-fisted burger includes cheddar cheese, secret sauce, onion-ketchup, pepperoncini and romaine lettuce on a brioche bun.
What makes it like Slash and the reunited hard-rocking lads? �use you have to sit down to eat it,” Adler cracked, referring to singer Axl Rose being confined to sitting during the band’s performance due to a broken foot.
Since Adler came on board in 2014, the food and beverage options have increased and diversified at Coachella — to include a craft beer barn, pop-up outposts of popular high-end restaurants, seated dinners with celebrity chefs, craft cocktails and more.
During Adler’s first year, he said festival goers didn’t flock to the food.
“I think they were still in that mode where ‘We don’t come to Coachella to eat. We come to Coachella to check out the art and see the music,’ “ Adler said.
But suddenly, in 2015, the epicurean pace picked up Weeks One and Two of the festival.
“This year, they came in Friday night hungry and thirsty for everything,” Adler said.
The viral nature of Coachella also boosted the profiles of some of the new restaurants via Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter.
The options offer various price points, from longtime festival favorite Spicy Pie, where you can still get a slice of cheese pizza for $7, to a multi-course meal at a pop-up version of Roy Choi’s Commissary with a $50 prix fixe menu.
The biggest splurge is Outstanding in the Field, where celebrity chefs cook a multi-course dinner served family style at a table with chairs in the picturesque rose garden area.
On Friday night, brothers Michael and Bryan Voltaggio, “Top Chef” alums who have restaurants in Los Angeles and Maryland, respectively, delighted the eager-to-eat festivalgoers.
Adler hopes to bring his amplified food focus to the new Arroyo Seco Music and Arts Festival, put on by Coachella parent company AEG. The event is headed to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena in June 2017.
Adler thinks the food may be even better,
�ing in the desert, it’s hard to get chefs to leave their kitchens and come out,” Adler said. “In Pasadena, I think we’re gonna have a little bit easier of a time.

Coachella 2015: 93 arrests, one death during festival’s first weekend
INDIO >> A total of 93 arrests were made during the first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, 13 more last year, according to the Indio Police Department.
A majority of the arrests — 56 — were related to illegal narcotics, while 20 festivalgoers were arrested for alcohol violations, according to a police department statement released April 14.
Two people were also arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, one other person was arrested for reportedly resisting or obstructing an officer, and one arrest was made for trespassing.
“There is about 100,000 people, so 93 arrests is less than .001 percent,” explained Sgt. Dan Marshall, spokesman for the Indio Police Department.
Of the 56 arrests made related to illegal narcotics, 49 of those were for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, while seven were felony arrests for possession of a controlled substance for sales, said Marshall,
“We only had seven felonies throughout the concert. It’s a significant difference from years past,” Marshall said, adding that in the past “mere possession was a felony.”
Festivalgoers under the influence of drugs or alcohol were arrested but not charged and instead detained 𠇏or their own safety.”
“Once they sobered up, we let them go,” Marshall said.
The deparment also said that there was an increased number of campers arriving earlier this year, which created some early morning traffic congestion in and around the concert venue, but reported throughout the weekend that traffic was relatively smooth during the mega festival.
Last year, police made 80 arrests.
One man also died during the weekend about 4 miles northeast outside of the festival, according to the Riverside County Sherriff-Coroner’s Office.
Jannick Andersen, 23, of San Diego was struck by a Union Pacific Train at about 3:05 a.m. April 11 and died at about 3:42 a.m.
“He was trespassing,” said Francisco Castillo, spokesman for Union Pacific. “It didn’t occur at a crossing. It occurred away from the crossing ,which is why we knew he was trespassing.”
Several trains were delayed as a result, but the schedule resumed around 5:45 a.m., Castillo said.
Andersen was a University of Colorado student whose friends confirmed on April 13 was traveling to California to attend Coachella, according to the Colorado-based news outlet Daily Camera. He was particularly excited to catch AC/DC, the festival’s headliner on April 10, a friend told the Daily Camera.
“It was an unfortunate accident and our hearts go out to friends and family of the deceased,” Castillo said. “Pedestrians, bicycles and motorists need to be very aware of the hazards associated with trains and should never attempt to cross the tracks without following the proper signage.”
In 2014, 24-year-old Kimchi Truong of Oakland also died during the first weekend of the festival, but due to an apparent overdose on drugs and alcohol, according to the Riverside County Sherriff-Coroner’s Office.
Coachella begins again this weekend, April 17-19, at the Empire Polo Grounds and is expected to again attract more than 90,000 attendees.
